Pupil Assessment and Reintegration Centre (PARC)
The PARC is a specialist Inclusion Base at St James that is funded, commissioned and quality assured through the Local Authority. It offers a 16-week nurture provision for children from across West Northamptonshire Schools. The children have been identified through the Local Authority HARPS pathway as needing additional support . The children attending the provision do not have an EHCP and are dual registered with their home school for the duration of the placement.
Access to the PARC is through the Local Authority's HARPS pathway and not directly through the school.
PARC Vision
Our provision offers an attachment and trauma friendly approach which fosters warmth, clear boundaries and high expectations so that all learners can reach their full potential by supporting them to re-integrate successfully back into their mainstream school at the end of the placement.
St James will support all learners to access this by
- To deliver a short-term, full-time, intensive intervention, to a group of children, in a nurture provision to support and help children access full-time education and reintegrate back into their home school.
- To build positive nurturing relationships with the children so they can learn how to recognise and understand feelings and emotions and learn strategies to support them to regulate their emotional and physical responses.
- To work collaboratively with the school and to support and reintegrate the children back into the home school by coaching and mentoring the home school adults.
- To work in partnership with school, LA, parents and external agencies to safeguard children.
Nurture Curriculum
The PARC SEMH Nurture Curriculum is designed to support children’s social and emotional development. Using hands-on learning, practical activities and a play-based approach we enable the children to understand more about themselves. The pupils in PARC learn to recognise, explore and understand their feelings and emotions, they are taught how to use strategies and skills to develop their emotional regulation.
The Nurture curriculum is delivered by experienced staff who support children to build language, communication and social skills through practical activities and play. Our staff use a person-centred approach and are responsive to the needs and interests of each child as an individual as well as supporting them to be part of the nurture group and, in time, use their learning to transition back to their home school.
Social & Emotional Literacy drives 6 topics over the sixteen weeks. Each topic has a set of aims that the curriculum covers and all are enhanced by the enrichment curriculum:
- Ourselves
- Feelings and Emotions
- Others and Friendships
- Belonging
- Growth Mindset
- Changes
